Appraisals for Homeowners
While most appraisals are performed on behalf of lenders, there are a number of reasons a homeowner may wish to get an appraisal on their own:
- Purchasing a new home.
- Refinancing an existing mortgage or getting a home equity loan.
- Estate-planning. If a member of your family has passed on, the value of their property needs to be determined as of the date of death for various reasons.
- PMI removal. Private Mortgage Insurance may be eliminated if the value of your home has appreciated, as determined by an appraisal.
- Second opinion. You may be trying to buy or sell a property and have a difference of opinion with your agent or another party.
